  • Saint Work: The Prophet Elijah

    (1Kings 17:1)

    “Now Elijah the Tishbite, from Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve, there will be neither dew nor rain in the next few years except at my word.”

    2 Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah: 3 “Leave here, turn eastward and hide in the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan. 4 You will drink from the brook, and I have directed the ravens to supply you with food there.”

     5so he did what the Lord had told him. He went to the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan, and stayed there.

    6 The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook.”

    My Early life experiences with the concept of Saints was very little, sure there was the mention of the Saints in the Apostles Creed that was in frequent use at my maternal Grandmother’s Methodist Church, but the idea of praying to these sacred individuals never came up. It wasn’t until much later in my witching life that I began to understand their importance and inclusion in magical work. The first time the idea really grabbed me was in Starr Casas’s Old Style Conjure, where she lists notable Prophet and Wonder workers in the old testament and listing all the ways one could approach these powerful spirits to bring in their help and power. It was her inclusion of the Prophet Elijah that lead me back to the figure that fascinated my early childhood in the Southern Baptist Church that I was raised in.

    While I was searching for ways to approach the Prophet in my own way, I went searching for more ways to approach Saint magics and ways to improve my prayer life with. At the time I was already working with St Micheal Archangel and was slowly learning more, while that practice isn’t particularly deep, I was searching for deeper roads. My next steps lead me to Italian Folk Magic, which helped to expand my knowledge on prayers, techniques and gave me several wonderful recipes for delicious meals but that is besides the point.

    My Shrine to the Blessed Prophet

    In my early life I was transfixed on the story of Elijah and the Priests of Baal, His encounter with God on Mount Horeb, and His assumption into heaven. These stories held my awe when I was young, and now today he has come back into my life as a magician as a figure of comfort, guidance and teachings. It is interesting to venerate a Prophet that is so important in so many different religions and is a mask for so many Pagan gods like Helios, Zeus, Perun, just to name a few. With this he comes through with so many heavenly connections and is especially helpful when calling on weather spirits and helping to fight against drought, there is so much intersection in the strengths of the undying Prophet. (If any one wants to learn more about the connections between Elijah and Perun I highly recommend this class.)

    The prophet has aided me with so much, he has protected me in troubling times, brought me free food when times were tough, lead me to many interesting points of study and so much more. The Saint has come through in a myriad form, boasting the shapes, strengths and signs of the above listed gods, with my primary mode of magical work being inspired by the PGM it should be no surprise that these masks come in so strongly for me. He has brought me into contact with angels, that preside over the land I live on, given me instructions on making charms, blessing cars. The Blessed Prophet Elijah has helped to reshape my life, this post is a recounting of my experiences but it is also an offering of public praise, adoration and gratitude to the single most influential Saint that has made his way into my heart.

O great Patriarch of the Order of Mount Carmel, teacher of God’s people and the defender of their Faith, disperse, we entreat you, the darkness of our intellect, obscured by our evil passions, and preserve in our hearts the Faith which is kept living by works of charity. O holy Patriarch of the Most High, taken into heaven in a chariot of fire, and who shall be the precursor of Christ, when He shall come in the splendor of his infinite majesty to judge the living and the dead, pray for us, that loving Him and sincerely serving Him on earth, we may have the great happiness of loving Him for all eternity in the blessed kingdom of heaven.     Workings with St. Elijah

      Typically my workings starts with the Bible, I pray to him that he guide my eyes so that my bibliomantic reading may be lead by his hand. We start a discussion with him using the bible as the medium so we can craft a strategy to building spell work, a prayer routine, or even  do nothing at all. Once the matter is divined on and the approach figured out we typically start with prayer, I like to use an “Our Father” or a “Glory Be” to start, then I move to a psalm or bible verse that fits the works goal, as well as prayers to God through the intersession of the The Prophet to lend the strength to the spell, or open the road, destroy a block or to learn the deeper mysteries of the Saint.

    Saint Elijah is a fiery and powerful spirit to work with, he will come through differently with different people , taking on the roll of a teacher or adviser for most magicians, while my deeper relationship is a much more private matter; I can firmly say that some of the best offerings you can give him are Wine, Water, Bread, Cake, Frankincense and frequent prayer. I personally like to offer wine made locally and fresh baked bread if I can make the time to make it. The best way to learn to work with this Saint is to start praying to him, follow the inspiration he gives you and follow that, say the prayer, do the work learn the magic.

Whether these spirits have been sent, or voluntarily have taken possession of my home, I beg you Holy Elijah–as you have defeated the enemy who has tried to harm the people under your protection–that I can defeat all those who try to harm me, whether through spiritual or material harm.     His feast day is on the 20th of this Month, so I’ll be launching my Shop page and as an Offering to this Saint that has so radically changed my life I will be releasing a charm that brings his fire to and power to help bring in targeted opportunities to those that buy them, they are limited to a stock of 20 and hand embroidered with the central figure from the 5th Pentacle of Mercury and the they should be available a week after his feast day.

  • An Introduction, Protection and Map work

    Hello all, I figured here would be the best place to properly introduce myself, You may call me Mallus, I am a practicing witch of 11 years, my practice is heavily influenced by The Greek Magical Papyri, Jack Grayle’s Hekatæon, and the works of Star Casas, Alexander Cummings and Gemma Gary

    I hope you will all join me on my journey and maybe help me to learn some new tricks along the way. Please bear with me as I learn and grow with all of you.

    While I won’t be going too deep into my personal practices, I plan to write about some of my experiences and workings that I’ve found to be generally effective

    When it comes to intense magical work nothing is more vital than protections, against harms, slanders, and on occasion other witches. The methods of protection magic vary wildly, from the incantation bowls of the ancient world, to the famous witch bottles of Britain, every culture has their own methods to protect against the unseen and malignant forces that might accost us in our magical practices.

    Magic takes many forms and because of that, protections vary in shape execution, most of them relying on folklore to inform their creations. A classic example of this is the vampire’s aversion to garlic, this extends to other pungent plant matter, such as onions and red peppers, their smell offends both humans and spiritual beings, burning garlic smells much, much, much worse than you could imagine, these herbs, and others like them are key to revoking and exorcsitic practices seeing as they are harsh to the spirits in a general sense.

    My particular brand of protection lean toward the baneful, and reactive to attacks. In a long-term practice as a witch or magician you will eventually run into situations that will require some form of protection, whether it’s a blundering in practice, a direct attack, or the reaction of offended spirit, protection is vital to ward these effects out, whether it be with decoys, reflectors, boundaries or the simplest practices of cleansing and banishings.

    All these are common place in the spiritual spaces online, though one thing I would like to bring to the table is the inclusion of working a map to better shape a boundary around the home of a magician. This is not meant to cut the mage off form the wonders of the world outside of the home, but to give a witch a place to rest, where blessings can come to roost in peace.

    I’ll give an example on what I mean using the planetary kamea of Mars, paired with a hawthorn wreath my own take on the classic fiery wall of protection and some plain white candles.

    I have a personal table of practice based around the four classical winds and four of the rivers of Hadean rivers seen here as well.

    The key to this kind of map work is calling to and appeasing the land you wish lay the protections on, that way it is better integrated into the locality you are aiming at.

    Now map work isn’t exclusive to protection workings, one could with the right tools, spirit allies and techniques you could turn this style of magic towards any end, from obscuring your self, healing from a distance or even blighting a place, this is a highly versatile piece of witchcraft that anyone could deploy if they have the mind for it.

    Map work is highly versatile tool that can contribute to highly effective magic and more if you are willing to experiment with sigils, kameas, spirit seals and tools. Experimentation leads to a breath of fresh air into any practice and in the occult it opens many more doors.
